Harris Teeter, a subsidiary of The Kroger Co., traces its roots back to 1960 when it was co-founded by North Carolina grocers W.T. Harris and Willis Teeter. Today, Harris Teeter boasts a presence across seven states and the District of Columbia, operating more than 250 stores and 60 fuel centers.

However, the journey was not without its challenges. Harris Teeter was grappling with the limitations of an outdated IBM FileNet P8 4.5.1 system. As the business evolved, critical processes, particularly in Finance & Accounting and Human Resources, were impacted by the lack of upgrades. Additionally, the existing data capture solution had become obsolete, presenting difficulties in extracting data from various documents. Given the substantial volume of data involved, Harris Teeter sought an upgrade to a newer ECM platform version that would seamlessly preserve data integrity and quality.

To address these challenges, Harris Teeter joined forces with Openway. The collaboration resulted in a successful upgrade of their ECM platform, transitioning from FileNet P8 4.5.1 to the latest version, FileNet P8 5.5.1. This upgrade allowed Harris Teeter to migrate its accounts payables and human resources applications from IBM Capture Professional to IBM Datacap, paving the way for digital business automation.

The modernization effort not only facilitated the digitization of existing documents but also enhanced data capture capabilities, including the capture of additional metadata, enriching the search functionality.

The results spoke volumes:
An impressive 98% increase in employee productivity and efficiency.
An outstanding 87% improvement in the end-user experience.

Harris Teeter's journey serves as a testament to the transformative power of technology and strategic partnerships in optimizing business operations and enhancing the overall user experience.
